Doesn’t it really make sense that the music of the sixties is just as important to our culture as other aesthetic mementos?
I hadn’t left home yet. Had to be sure I had everything I needed. So I checked my Israeli Army messenger bag: beret - check; three notebooks - check; tablet - check; pens - check; digital tape recorder (with lapel mic) - check; Kabar military grade commando knife; one never knows - check. All appeared to be in order for the task at hand. Oh, yeah, overnight bag - this was going to be one long endeavor. Oh, yes, and a $75 bottle of imported Russian potato vodka - couldn’t pronounce the name if I tried.
Pulled off the causeway about four o’clock; made my way to the notorious Port O Call and made a left. Pulled into the driveway of the subject and collected my thoughts. I walked up to the door and heard, “Come on in.” We embraced like long acquainted lovers do. Nick said to me, “What do you want for dessert?” and I replied, “I don’t do dessert,” he retorted, “Well I do.”
Off we went to the only market open on LBI and he bought some very commercial cheese Danish - I was surprised. After the market it was off to Buckelew’s for some drinks. Nick had his usual Johnnie Walker Black. I caused quite an uproar by ordering a Silver Fox - all it is vodka sprinkled with black pepper. After two drinks and being eyed-over by some forty-somethings, we headed back to his condo.
He was making Bouillabaisse
for dinner - he considers himself quite a chef. I knew this when we both twelve.
Long story short; after more drinks and a delicious dinner I was ready to start the interview. After noticing that I couldn’t read what I was writing, it was time to quit. This background interview for this particular biography has been put on hold until after he gets back from several business trips.
This was the first time i awoke with a hangover in quite a few years.
Better luck next time - I hope.
What were doing when you were twelve? Playing stickball in the street, running numbers for the local bookie, putting exclusive secret societies with your girlfriend, or finding it hard to sleep for Oh so many reasons?
Were you pondering your future - perhaps you were fully concentrated on nuclear holocaust - so many of us were. We also wondered aboutour parents; especially, those of us whose parents were having very weird parties, and even some trying to teach us about our sexuality through a hands-on approach. Yes, those were the days my friends - the golden days of youth - no matter how short-lived.
Some of us maybe were contemplating our future in the here and now - If I were going to become a priest did I have to those unspeakable things to other kids, just like they did?
But on this day in history, something wonderful was to take place. So enormous of value and consequence that it would free us, yes, literally free us! We didn’t have to imagine beheading our parents with grandpa’s WWI sword anymore. We experienced true liberation through a simple medium. Something we had been doing for quite some time now. That damn little variety show on CBS with the Frankenstein-like host would provide our very own rabbit’s hole. This particular Sunday night (2/9/64) at 8:00 PM was permanently forged as our Freed Night. On Sunday, February 9, 1964 The Beatles performed live on Ed Sullivan and changed us forever. Please rejoice in this day!
Dream big, my friends: because in the end, the time you use is the time you lose.
For those of you who love history or have a particular geneology or national interest, I chose to highlight this fine three-volume set.
If you know your ancient history, then you will know that Flavius Josephus is to Hebrew history what Herodotus is to Roman history.
This particular set was written 1673 - yes, it’s authentic and original to the time. I think the pictures show that. Basically titled, The Hebrew Wars, this set would make a wonderful addition to anyone’s collection. Not collecting, what a great gift idea - don’t you think.
For my friends, I have DEEP DISCOUNTED this set. It is currently selling for $295 at Dr. Mike’s Books and Collectibles; however, if you give me a call, it’s yours for a flat $200 with shipping included. That’s quite a deal.
If your interested, please give me a call at (732) 674 - 5037. If not, just
enjoy the pictures.

I thought I would share this with everyone because I know how important family is to all of you.
Something from Trans-Siberian Orchestra:
This Christmas Day
So, tell me Christmas
Are we wise
To believe in things we never see
Are prayers just wishes in disguise
And are these wishes being granted me
For now I see
The answering
To every prayer I’ve prayed
She’s coming home this
Christmas Day
So tell me Christmas
Are we kind
More this day than any other day
Or is it only in our mind
And must it leave when you have gone away
It’s different now
It’s changed somehow
And now you’re here to stay
She’s coming home this
Christmas Day
All at once the world
It doesn’t seem the same
And in a single night
You know it all has changed
And everything is now as it should be
I have the ornament
I have the perfect tree
I have a string of lights
I have a chance to see
Everything that my heart thought could be
For of all the dreams
You were the first I knew
And every other one
Was a charade of you
You stayed close when I was far away
In the darkest night
You always were the star
You always took us in
No matter who we are
And so she’s coming home this
Christmas Day
[1.]
Merry Christmas
Merry, merry Christmas
Merry Christmas
Merry, merry Christmas
Merry Christmas
Merry, merry Christmas
Night
[add the second stanza in the third time]
[2.]
She’s coming home
She’s coming home
She’s coming home
This Christmas Day
[All together]
She’s coming home this
Christmas Day…
SO THE GIRL HAD REACHED HER HOME
AND THE BAR WAS CLOSING DOWN
AS THE ANGEL STARTED BACK
TO BRING HIS LORD WHAT HE HAD FOUND
Who among us could even imagine a 69 year old Jimi Hendrix? Not, I. Let’s be thankful for the time he had with us. Those of us who were fortunate to see him play, certainly realize how special he was. This is my favorite cut. What’s yours?
Well, I’ve succumbed to the whole retail thing and posted a couple of “Holiday Specials” at Dr. Mike’s Books and Collectibles. I figure, why not give it a shot? So here’s the link - please feel free to pass it along.

Today[19] is National Adoption Day - so please join me in celebration of all the beautiful children who now have families and homes. Also, take some time to reflect upon all those children who still need a family to call their own.
